Making a piece of ceremonial paper is a long journey: The dó tree is brought to peel, cleaned, then the artisans soak the dó tree bark in cold water, then soak it in lime water, then wash, cook with steam, then grind into powder, meticulously in each stage. Next is the paper sizing process. The artisans have to use additional water to soak the Mò tree sap, to increase the adhesion of the dó tree powder, then sift – filter evenly by hand so that the paper powder settles smoothly in the tray into a sheet of paper. After the sizing process, the paper is peeled, rolled, then coated with buffalo skin glue to increase toughness, prevent mold. The raw paper is dried, then the artisans continue to apply scented water on the paper to get a fresh yellow color, then draw dragons and four mythical creatures on both sides. Finally, the artisans will apply a shiny gold layer on top.

5.2. Weaving craft village:

  • VinWonders Visit the process of raising silkworms and experience silk cocooning, silk reeling, silk spinning, and silk weaving.
  • VinWonders Visit how silkworms weave silk carpets.
  • VinWonders Shop for handmade embroidered products.

In addition to the ceremonial paper making craft, at the village of Vinpearl Land Hoi An, you also have the opportunity to see Ms. Phan Thi Thuan raising silkworms to weave silk blankets. On a square table, hundreds of silkworms carefully crawl back and forth, releasing silk threads to create a delicate, soft blanket, especially without any visible seams. In that space, tourists will see silkworms creating cocoons, then watch the aunts boil the cocoons to extract silk, then the delicate silk threads are intertwined by the artisans’ hands to create smooth, cool silk fabrics.

Or get lost in the craft village of the H’Mong people, you will feel like you are in the Northwest sky. In this craft village of Vinpearl Hoi An, you will feel the breath of the mountains and forests, hear the birds chirping and the sound of streams flowing on each hand-woven brocade dress. Not many people know that these dresses are woven from lanh tree bark: soaked, boiled, crushed, then fibers are extracted, then carefully woven, soaked, washed repeatedly, then beeswax is applied for painting. Like that, with great effort, the raw lanh fabric has turned into a painting containing the breath of the mountains and forests.

To experience and explore all the traditional craft villages on the folk island of VinWonders Nam Hoi An, to truly understand the soul that the artisans blow into the island, you may have to spend the whole day. The art of “Hát then” and “cây đàn tính” originates from the collective labor life of the ancient Tày community. “Then” can be understood as “Thiên,” meaning Heaven, so the “hát then” melody is considered by the Tày people as the melody of the deities. The lyrics of “hát then” are folk verses that are both poetic and rich in musicality, as well as containing moral advice, encouragement, and experiences in dealing with others and the world… Therefore, listening to “hát then” provides valuable lessons about life, how to interact with nature, and those around us.

On the other hand, “Hát chầu văn” is a traditional form of singing art in Vietnam. It is a ceremonial music form associated with the ritual of spirit mediumship of the Four Palaces belief (Đạo Mẫu) and the worship of Saint Trần (Đức Thánh Vương Trần Hưng Đạo), a Vietnamese folk belief. The art of “chầu văn” is being preserved and has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.

8. Live Show: Về Bến

Can you imagine what a live show is like? This is a performance that is staged to resemble real life. It wasn’t until the construction of VinWonders Nam Hội An that this program was tested and offered to visitors for entertainment at VinWonders. That’s why VinWonders Phú Quốc or VinWonders Nha Trang do not have any live shows yet.

Inspired by the stories of rivers and seas, the live show “Về Bến” vividly recreates the living space of Vietnamese fishermen. This is also the inspiration for the creation of 12 giant boats at the entrance of VinWonders Nam Hội An, with a magnificent scene of “returning to the dock,” anchoring at the bustling port, which is a replica of the prosperous Hội An trading port from the 17th century.

A spectacular performance called “Về Bến” may sound simple and intimate, but it sparkles with the precious beauty of traditional arts, directed by Tấn Lộc and performed by stage artists, turning into an impressive live performance; with the perfect combination of music, props, and artistic dance movements on boats, underwater, and even in the air, promising to bring various emotions to the audience. “Về Bến” is a painting of a bustling festival day, welcoming visitors to explore the cultural essence of the VinWonders Nam Hoi An Folk Culture Island.

The festival opens with the sound of drums, lively and vibrant, a familiar sound of celebration in Vietnamese rural villages. After the green bamboo grove, the image of a rural village with an early market appears amidst the laughter and chatter of working people. The scene of a fishing village is recreated – where fishermen are busy preparing to set sail. They tightly grip the oars, swing on the fishing nets, tirelessly row the boat under the sun and wind of the Central region, but their faces are always radiant, optimistic, and full of life. After days of drifting with waves, wind, sky, and vast water, people come back together and spend moments of affection and tranquility. The final act of “Về Bến” brings a festive atmosphere, vibrant and colorful after a successful harvest season, a fishing trip.
