Summer is here and it’s too hot, what should you do? The answer is to pack your bags and head straight to the beach. One of the man-made beaches that people in the North love is Bai Chay Beach. For first-time travelers to Ha Long, stepping foot in this tourist destination will surely be captivated by the stunning natural beauty of the blue sea, white sand, and golden sun at Bai Chay Beach. So, why hesitate to pin down the most useful travel experiences at Bai Chay that Cuong is about to share below for the most complete and enjoyable trip.

The origin of the name “Bai Chay”

Bai-Chay00012

There was an interesting thing that Cuong learned on this trip to Ha Long this time, which was hearing the local people talk about the history of the name “Bai Chay.” According to their stories, the name Bai Chay originated from two hypotheses. The first hypothesis: in the past, this Ha Long tourist destination was a beach with sand, and people used fire to burn the barnacles to prevent them from damaging the boats. And it was from here that the name Bai Chay was born. According to the second hypothesis, it is because in the past at this Ha Long tourist destination, the fleet of the Mongol Yuan army invaded, was burned by the Tran general and the people, drifted ashore, set fire to the adjacent forest, and from there people called it Bai Chay. Isn’t that interesting? For Cuong, when visiting any tourist destination, what he likes most is to hear the true stories, the real events about that tourist destination. Because through this, you will gain more useful knowledge about the tourist destination you are visiting that is hard to find in books or in the media.

Where is Bai Chay located?

Bai-Chay00013

According to Cuongdulich, Bai Chay is one of the 3 tourist areas in Ha Long. This Ha Long tourism spot is located in Bai Chay Ward, with the central point being Bai Chay Beach, where all tourist activities are concentrated.

Bai Chay Beach is an artificial beach along Ha Long Bay, famous for its sandy beach over 1000m long and 100m wide. With an average annual temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius, a cool climate all year round, besides the sandy beach over 500m long, there is also a gentle hill running towards the sea, extending over 2 km embracing ancient pine trees, interspersed with hotels, small villas with unique architecture creating a pristine beauty for this beach. This helps make Bai Chay an increasingly popular destination for independent travelers or those buying a full-package Bai Chay tour.

How to get to Bai Chay?

There are many transportation options you can choose to travel to Ha Long and visit Bai Chay, such as buses, trains, motorcycles, airplanes… However, to make it easier for you to imagine, Cuong will divide it into two main routes: Hanoi-Bai Chay and Ho Chi Minh City-Bai Chay.

From Hanoi to Bai Chay

Firstly, for those of you starting from Hanoi to Bai Chay, this route is 150 km long, which may sound far, but now thanks to the upgraded and significantly improved road system, it is very convenient for you to travel.

There are many transportation options you can choose from:

1. By train

Bai-Chay00004

Currently, traveling to Ha Long by train is also very popular. When using this means of transportation, you can enjoy the scenery along the way, learn more about the lives of local people in the places the train passes through. Besides, if you travel in a large group, it will be very fun, as you can chat and eat without worrying about getting car sick. If you choose to travel to Bai Chay during the peak time of Ha Long tourism, I highly recommend booking train tickets online in advance, as they may sell out close to the travel date. You can book train tickets on the Vietnam Railways website: https://dsvn.vn/timve.

From Hanoi to Bai Chay, you can choose the HALONG EXPRESS train departing from Gia Lam station. The ticket price is 110,000 VND for Vietnamese and 340,000 VND for foreigners. For tour groups of 15 people or more traveling to Ha Long, the ticket price is 227,000 VND for foreigners. Children under 5 years old travel for free. The journey takes about 5 hours. The specific schedule is as follows: Gia Lam – Ha Long: departure time is 7:05, arrival time is 12:00. Ha Long – Gia Lam: departure time is 15:00, arrival time is 20:05.

In addition, there are some things that Cuong travel wants to note for those choosing to travel to Ha Long by train:

First, the departure station from Hanoi is Yen Vien station, and the arrival station is Ha Long station. From Ha Long station, you will need to travel about 5km further to reach the pier or the center of Ha Long.

Second, there is only one train per day departing from Hanoi at 4:55 am and arriving in Ha Long at 11:34 am (travel time is about 6.5 hours). Therefore, please arrange your Ha Long tour schedule accordingly to avoid missing the train on the same day.

Third, the train journey from Hanoi to Bai Chay only offers “hard seats” with a ticket price of 70,000 VND per person per way. Usually, train tickets also have soft air-conditioned seats and sleeper beds for you to choose from, but for the Hanoi-Bai Chay route, only hard seats are available, so you should consider carefully before choosing this means of transportation to ensure the best health for your trip to Ha Longu lịch Ha Long trip.

2. Bus

Bai-Chay00010

This is one of the most popular choices when traveling to Ha Long not only because of its convenience and variety but also because it is quite economical. There are many bus companies and many trips per day, prices also vary depending on the bus company and the type of bus serving passengers. You can buy tickets through the website, or go directly to the bus station to purchase. Buses to Ha Long (Bai Chay bus station) usually depart from My Dinh bus station, with a trip every 15-30 minutes, ticket prices starting from 100,000VND/person/way.

Some reputable and quality bus companies that Cuong wants to introduce when you plan a trip to Ha Long are:

– Kumho Viet Thanh Bus:

  • Ticket price: 120,000 VND
  • Departure time: 6:00-18:00 (travel time 3h30m)

  • In addition, if you prefer comfort, luxury, and convenience, Cuong would like to suggest that you can choose to travel by high-quality limousine on the Hanoi – Ha Long expressway.

These are new Limousine buses, usually with 9 seats, ticket prices ranging from 180,000VND – 260,000 VND/person/way (prices vary depending on the seat you choose). If you go on a 3-day 2-night Ha Long tour or a 2-day 1-night tour, most travel companies will arrange transportation by this Limousine bus. The bus will pick up and drop off passengers very flexibly, everything depends on the seat you choose so you don’t have to worry about going to crowded bus stations to catch the bus, your job is just to prepare your luggage and wait for the bus to pick you up. Convenient, isn’t it?

When is the best time to travel to Bai Chay?

Bai Chay is a well-planned beach and considered the most “luxurious” in Ha Long with a sandy beach over 1000m long running alongside a gentle hill towards the sea, adorned with ancient pine trees creating a pristine beauty amidst the modern cityscape. The climate here is cool and pleasant all year round, but like other large and small beaches along the S-shaped coast, Bai Chay attracts the most tourists traveling to Ha Long from around May to September each year – when the scorching heat envelops most of the northern region of our country.

Around the end of May and the end of September, the number of tourists in Ha Long is not too crowded, coupled with the mild sunshine, ensuring that tourists in Ha Long will have unforgettable moments strolling along the beach.

What to do at Bai Chay?

Bai Chay Beach

Bai-Chay00017

The first destination that Cuong wants to introduce to you when visiting Ha Long travel is the Bai Chay beach. This is considered the widest beach in Ha Long city and boasts a beautiful and romantic scenery.

Bai Chay Beach is located about 1km from Ha Long road, with a length of 1000m and a width of 100m. This is a newly artificial beach recreated on the old Bai Chay beach. Compared to other beaches in the North, Bai Chay is the clearest and bluest. Another special feature of this beach is the gentle waves due to its location in Ha Long Bay. Visitors to Ha Long will immerse themselves in a clear blue beach with a long stretch of white sand flanked by ancient trees, romantic sunsets and sunrises, creating a feeling of comfort and peace.

All tourists, both domestic and international, when visiting Bai Chay not only get to relax, take photos, surf the web, read books on the beach with free wifi internet service, but also get to hear the heroic legends of our ancestors fighting against foreign invaders. Just hearing it makes you want to rush to the beach, right? Additionally, at Bai Chay beach, there are services for renting bicycles to ride along the beach, car surfing, kite rentals, a variety of unique dining services, you should try them all.

Bai Chay Night Market

Bai-Chay00011

Continue to follow Cuong to explore the second tourist destination in Bai Chay, which is also very interesting, the Bai Chay night market. When traveling to Bai Chay without exploring the Bai Chay night market, it would be a great pity. Here, there are hundreds of different stalls selling tempting seafood such as squid, grilled sea snails…, unique souvenirs like seashells, clam shells,… that Halong tourists can freely choose to bring back as gifts or enjoy fresh seafood at the market is the best.

The local people here are particularly fond of creating unique souvenirs with a strong marine essence, such as wind chimes made from seashells, clam shells, meticulously crafted Gulf region paintings, and most notably, stone sculptures – considered the “specialty” of this Halong tourist destination. The market starts in the afternoon, around 5:30 in the evening people begin to set up their stalls, so after swimming in the sea, you can leisurely walk to the night market for dinner and buy souvenirs, which is a great idea.

Bai Chay Bridge

After shopping at the market, where to go? What could be better than enjoying delicious seafood at Bai Chay market and then going to Bai Chay Bridge to admire the city at night? Is there a more peaceful feeling than strolling with your family on the windy bridge overlooking the bay? Surely, at that moment, all the burdens, worries, and pressures of daily life will be blown away, leaving only happiness in the moments spent with your beloved family. The sea breeze will bring rare comfort and relaxation.

Bai-Chay00007

Bai Chay Bridge is 1106m long and located on National Highway 18, serving as a connection point between Hon Gai and Bai Chay through the Cua Luc estuary, which are two parts of the city of Ha Long. It is the first cable-stayed bridge built in Vietnam, setting a world record for its span length. This bridge has a very beautiful location. The people of Ha Long and tourists often choose Bai Chay Bridge as an ideal destination to admire the scenery. Standing on the bridge, in front of the beautiful landscape, the wonders of nature combined with the magical creations of humans make life even more lovable. It is not a waste when you travel hundreds or thousands of kilometers to visit Ha Long tourism and see Bai Chay Bridge.

Ha Long Park – The largest entertainment complex in the North

Bai-Chay00009

Located right next to Bai Chay Beach is the Sun World Ha Long Park entertainment area. This is a complex with a wide variety of games ranging from gentle relaxation to high-speed thrills. Surely, when you experience all these games here, you won’t want to leave at all. I have played the crazy rhinoceros game here, the feeling was extremely exhilarating, spinning upside down in the air. Although I was scared at first and hesitated to play, once I tried it, it was so exciting and addictive.

Ha Long Park is designed with 2 main areas: the beachside amusement park and the Ba Deo entertainment area connected by the unique Queen cable car system. In the beachside amusement park, Ha Long tourists can participate in the 2 most popular amusement parks, Dragon Park and Typhoon Water Park. Dragon Park currently holds the record for the fastest Dragon ride – the fastest roller coaster in Vietnam.

Bai Chay Old Town Tourist Area

Bai-Chay00008

As a country with a thousand years of civilization, it is not difficult to find an ancient quarter running along the S-shaped land, the most famous of which must mention the ancient town of Hoi An or the ancient town of Hanoi,…. If those ancient quarters are probably familiar to many tourists, then the ancient town of Bai Chay in Halong is a relatively new name for Halong tourists. Indeed, it is not an ancient town with mossy corners, but a harmonious blend through very affectionate corners. Bai Chay Ancient Town – Little Vietnam is a reenactment of the enduring beauty through the simulation of the architecture as well as the traditional lifestyle and business of Hanoi’s 36 streets and Hoi An ancient town. The ancient town is designed with unique architecture located on both fronts, with one side being a pedestrian street recreating the image of Hoi An ancient town and Hanoi ancient town, and the other side being a modern street for business, trade, and transportation.

If the ancient town of Hoi An steals the hearts of many Halong tourists with paper flowers appearing all over the eaves, potted plants…. then the ancient town of Hanoi also surprises you that how Bai Chay Ancient Town can cleverly and delicately recreate the scene of Hanoi Ancient Town, however, in terms of hustle and bustle, it may still be somewhat inferior to the capital city. When you come to this ancient town, no matter where you stand, you can take pictures of yourself with extremely authentic virtual living photos. That’s why many young people “come and don’t want to leave” always.
