Today, Cuồng would like to introduce you to another equally beautiful place, with white sand, blue sea, and golden sun, but even more pristine and less crowded than My Khe Beach. Please allow me to introduce you to Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang!
1. Where is Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang located?
Obama Rock Beach is a pristine rocky beach located on the Son Tra Peninsula in the city of Da Nang. Due to its proximity to the famous ancient fig tree in Son Tra, this rocky beach is also known as Da Beach. Another name for this rocky beach is Son Tra Black Rock Beach. Another name for this rocky beach is Obama Rock Beach. Why a beach in Vietnam is named after the first African-American president of the United States, Cuồng truly doesn’t know. It’s definitely not because Obama visited the beach or named it after himself!
2. Directions to Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang
To get to Obama Rock, you can follow the Hoang Sa coastal road until you reach the intersection near Son Tra resort, where you will see a sign pointing towards Da Beach, then follow the directions.
Alternatively, you can start from the foot of Linh Ung Pagoda (Son Tra) and head towards Hoang Sa road for about 1km, then follow the coastal road to reach this rock formation. You can combine a visit to Linh Ung Pagoda and then head down to Obama Rock. This is a very sacred pagoda in Da Nang, and the view from the pagoda overlooking the entire Da Nang beach from above is simply magnificent!
3. Transportation to Obama Rock in Da Nang
To get to Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang, you can travel by car or motorbike. However, traveling by motorbike will be the most suitable choice for you to have a wonderful experience. More importantly, you can actively stop to rest, take photos, admire the beautiful scenery to your heart’s content, and enjoy the fresh air that you cannot find in the bustling urban areas.
If you go by motorbike, you can only ride a manual motorbike because the management board of Son Tra Peninsula has banned all scooters from going up to Son Tra to ensure your safety. A different point of Obama Rock Beach compared to many other tourist destinations in Da Nang is that there is currently no entrance fee, you only need to pay for parking (motorbike) and then you can freely visit and take photos at this rock beach.

To have a fun and memorable trip, the first thing you need to do is determine the right time to visit. The ideal time to visit the Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang is from March to September, especially during the summer months.

When visiting the Obama rock beach, Cuong found this tourist area in Da Nang quite deserted, so you will have private moments with your loved ones, enjoying the feeling of having a vast water and sky all to yourself. In the afternoon, Cuong took some photos of the high rocky cliffs protruding above the deep blue water, with the sky covered in fluffy clouds, beautiful like a miniature Maldives. Although it doesn’t offer the long stretches of smooth white sand like many other beaches in Da Nang, the harmonious combination of the vast blue sky, clear blue water with lively waves of the sea… all create a captivating beauty that mesmerizes many tourists when they visit the Obama rock beach.
The sea water here is so clear that in some places we can easily see coral reefs at the bottom or our own shadow faintly passing through the clear water. This place is truly a deserted beach paradise amidst the bustling city of Da Nang.

Cuong thinks this is quite simple if a group of close friends invite each other to camp at Obama rock for a day. Each person just needs to bring a backpack with food and drinks, and the whole group will have a fun and satisfying party.
If you prefer, you can also order dishes at the restaurants here and enjoy traditional seafood dishes with friends and family, such as steamed clams, sea snails, blood cockles, etc., at reasonable prices.

The canoe will take you to places with many coral reefs, and the rest of the mission is for you to dive into the water and admire the coral reefs.

You can ask the owners of the huts to rent them to participate in high-speed canoe racing with service prices ranging from 400 – 600k/person. 7. Some notes when visiting Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang
The rental prices for huts here seem a bit expensive for some people (prices from 500k upwards), so you should inquire about the prices beforehand. If you find it reasonable, then go ahead and rent one, but if not, you can still come here to take photos without any issues. For independent travelers visiting Da Nang, especially young people looking to travel on a budget, there’s no need to enter the huts. You can simply sit and enjoy on the rocks or the long curved wooden bridges to have a beautiful background for your photos. If you want to camp or organize a party, you can bring a tarp to spread on the white sandy beach here!
The water at the Obama Rock Beach in Da Nang is shallow, but there are many small rocks at the bottom, some with slippery moss, so be very careful if you want to swim in this area.
Remember to bring a jacket and apply sunscreen when you come here around noon.
If you are riding a motorbike, you can only ride a manual one, not an automatic scooter, and you must ensure that you have a steady hand to navigate the hilly roads.
Avoid staying out too late here as there are fewer people at night, which can be dangerous.
When renting a food stall, be cautious and inquire about the prices thoroughly before using the services here.
To ensure safety, avoid visiting this location on days with bad weather, such as rain, wind, or rough seas.
8. Tourist spots near Obama Rock in Da Nang
8.1 Linh Ung Pagoda
The Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula is the largest pagoda in the city of Da Nang in terms of both scale (covering about 20 hectares) and architectural art. This pagoda is part of the Son Tra Peninsula tourist complex, built with a harmonious combination of modern and traditional Vietnamese temple architecture.
Especially, at Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, there is a statue of Quan The Am Bodhisattva considered the tallest in Vietnam (67m high, with a 35m diameter lotus tower, equivalent to a 30-story building). The statue stands with its back against the mountain, facing the sea, with gentle eyes looking down, one hand holding a pearl necklace, the other hand holding a jug of holy water as a symbol of peace for the fishermen venturing far out to sea.
8.2 Chessboard Peak
The winding road up the mountain is a journey where you can experience many beautiful and romantic landscapes of Son Tra Peninsula. Going through the road from the foot of the peninsula to the peak of Ban Co, all tiredness is dispelled thanks to the vast space like a fairyland.
Standing on this nearly 700m high point, you can admire the whole of Da Nang. In the distance is a bustling city with famous buildings and nine bridges crossing the Han River. The most beautiful time to climb to the peak of Ban Co is perhaps the dreamy morning, when the city is still quiet and asleep, nature on the peninsula is also awakening, the sun shines brightly on the other side of the mountain.
8.3 Bai Tien Sa
