Currently, Cuong is standing at the entrance of the Phu Quoc night market and the first impression is that it is crowded, with many lights and very fragrant. The sound of music from the bar cafes, the clinking sound of the ice cream vendors, the greetings from the clothing vendors, and countless other sounds, but the most enticing is still the smell from the grilled food stalls. To be honest, it’s probably not just Cuong, but any tourist visiting Phu Quoc would be captivated by this scent, so Cuong decides to both find food and introduce the Phu Quoc night market to you all!

If you have been on a Phu Quoc tour about 3 years ago, the Phu Quoc night market used to be located on Vo Thi Sau street, near Dinh Cau, and only stretched about 100m. However, the market was later reorganized and moved to Bach Dang street. Since then, the scale of the Phu Quoc night market has been elevated, with more elegant stalls, a wider variety of products, and attracting more tourists visiting Phu Quoc for shopping.

The layout of the Phu Quoc night market

Cuong found that there are many things for sale at the Phu Quoc night market. The stalls at the Phu Quoc night market are arranged on both sides of the street, with a wide walkway in the middle for visitors to explore and shop. The local vendors here are very enthusiastic, friendly, open, and hospitable. Upon reflection, the layout of the stalls in the Phu Quoc night market is quite clever! Outside the entrance are various snacks for those who have already had dinner on their all-inclusive Phu Quoc tour, making it easy to find something to eat. For independent travelers visiting Phu Quoc who want to have dinner at the night market, it’s also easy to choose. For groups of friends and families traveling to Phu Quoc who want to enjoy affordable and delicious seafood at the night market, they can venture further inside for a quieter atmosphere. Souvenir and specialty stalls in Phu Quoc are interspersed throughout the market, allowing visitors to browse, eat, and choose conveniently.

Phu Quoc Night Market Cuisine

This is a grilled food stall at the Phu Quoc night market. Look at the colors, they are extremely attractive, and the aroma is irresistible. Cuong could smell it from the entrance of the market. There are grilled bread, grilled seafood, grilled meat, grilled sausages, shrimp spring rolls, seafood spring rolls, and more, all priced at only 30k. The prices are clearly displayed, so first-time visitors to the Phu Quoc night market won’t be confused. Just to clarify, these stuffed squids are 100k each, but when you ask, the stall owner will kindly tell you the price, and if you like something, you can buy it without any pressure. Here’s another useful travel tip for you! The Phu Quoc night market starts setting up at 4 pm and runs until around 11 pm, but it gets busiest from 7 pm onwards.

Grilled eggs dish

Finally, the legendary grilled egg dish at the Phu Quoc night market is done. This egg dish costs 30k per portion, which may seem expensive, but it’s worth it because it includes quail eggs, oysters, and meat. After grilling, sprinkle roasted peanuts on top and eat it with mayonnaise and chili sauce, it’s amazing.  After finishing the grilled egg dish, I went to check out the Thai rolled ice cream stall. Because until now, I’ve been standing here and those guys have been making a mess, it’s too chaotic.

Thai rolled ice cream

In fact, Thai rolled ice cream is sold everywhere, not just at the Phu Quoc night market, but for some reason, the flavor of the rolled ice cream at the Phu Quoc night market is very special and cannot be found anywhere else. The sweet and slightly creamy taste, along with a hint of fragrance, is very unique. But what is most captivating is the skillful hands of the seller. They deftly move back and forth to evenly spread the ice cream, unintentionally creating a rhythmic sound that feels like a hot flamenco music piece. That’s why the rolled ice cream stalls at the Phu Quoc night market are usually crowded with customers.

Octopus cake

Here is the Octopus Cake, a snack inspired by the Japanese Takoyaki dish. Although this dish is not too unfamiliar, truth be told, every time you go on a Phu Quoc tour, you must visit the night market to try this dish. For only 30,000 VND, you will get a box of 6 round and cute cakes, topped with mayonnaise and salad. They are hot, rich, salty, and spicy, and when you bite into the fresh octopus piece, it’s just amazing. Just describing it makes me crave it, and now I want to go on a trip to Phu Quoc again, hehe.

For those who are allergic to seafood but still love to travel to Phu Quoc, when you visit the night market, you can also try dishes like meatballs, fried chicken wings, and fried sausages. These types usually cost only 15-20k per skewer.

Candy only

Candy floss is also considered a legendary food at the Phu Quoc night market. In fact, candy floss consists of strong candy pulled into threads, then coated with grated coconut and sandwiched between layers of rice paper. With the “magical” skill of pulling threads by the owner, the legendary candy floss is created. When eating, you can taste the sweetness of the candy, the freshness of the coconut, and the crispy rice paper. Did you know? Every time I visit Phu Quoc and stop by to eat candy floss, it feels like childhood memories come back because this was a favorite snack during my school days. The candy looks quite beautiful with fluffy candy floss coated with grated coconut and sandwiched between two halves of rice paper.

Location of Phu Quoc night market

Oh, I got too carried away with eating and forgot to give you directions to the Phu Quoc night market, right? For those of you on a full package tour to Phu Quoc, you’ll probably have a tour bus taking you there, but if you want to explore on your own, listen up. The Phu Quoc night market is located right next to the Dương Đông seafood market. You can reach the Phu Quoc night market through various routes, but the main entrance is at the intersection of 30/4 street and the end of the intersection of Trần Hưng Đạo and Lý Tự Trọng streets. After eating, shopping at the Phu Quoc night market, you can walk along 30/4 street to Dinh Cau for a refreshing stroll, which is also a fun experience when visiting Phu Quoc.

Because the Phu Quoc night market is located right in the center of Duong Dong town, it’s quite easy for you to move around, isn’t it? If you are staying near the Phu Quoc night market area, you can just walk there. If you are a bit further away, I strongly recommend taking a taxi to the Phu Quoc night market for convenience, instead of renting a motorbike and dealing with the hassle of finding a parking spot back and forth. Taxis in Phu Quoc are plentiful and the fare is very transparent and metered. If you are coming from Tran Hung Dao street, it will cost around 10 to 100k VND, and if you are further away like Suoi May area, it’s around 150k VND, but the taxi can accommodate 4 – 7 people, so when splitting the cost, it’s quite affordable. Plus, if you decide to have a few drinks at the Phu Quoc night market, it’s also safer this way.

If you choose to stay at hotels like Vinpearl or Novotel Premier when traveling to Phu Quoc, these hotels usually provide shuttle services to the night market for guests to enjoy. However, the shuttle schedule can be quite inconvenient, as it leaves at 4 pm and returns by 9 pm, leaving little time for exploration. This is one of the reasons why Cuong always advises travelers to choose accommodations in the Duong Dong town area when going on a Phu Quoc tour, whether it’s an independent tour or a package tour.

Eating experience at Phu Quoc night market

Speaking of costs, Cuong also mentions that all food stalls at the Phu Quoc night market have clear prices listed. Snacks like grilled corn, grilled rice paper, and toyaki cakes are priced around 30 – 50k, while drinks like sugarcane juice, coconut water, and hạt é fruit juice are only about 20k. The seafood at the Phu Quoc night market is incredibly fresh, with live seafood such as fish, prawns, and snails displayed on ice at the entrance of the restaurants. The staff will advise and quote prices before you make your selection.

If you are worried about being overcharged by the staff, don’t worry because Cuong believes there are 3 reasons why you can trust eating or shopping at the Phu Quoc night market. First, they will only sell to you if you agree with the price, no haggling. Second, around the Phu Quoc night market, there are many seafood stalls, so if one sells at a high price, you can easily move on. Third, the prices of goods at the Phu Quoc night market are always clear and monitored by market management to ensure the safety of tourists! Food products at the stalls in the Phu Quoc night market are also well-packaged and look very hygienic.

Shopping experience at Phu Quoc night market

Another interesting experience that Cuong wants to share with those planning to visit Phu Quoc tourism and visit the night market. At specialty stalls in Phu Quoc such as dried seaweed, grilled squid, tea leaves, peanuts, etc., you can taste before buying. Even if you taste and don’t buy, the vendors at the Phu Quoc night market are still friendly and enthusiastic as usual. These items are also local specialties of Phu Quoc, so they make great gifts. Additionally, the Phu Quoc night market also sells other specialties such as dried seafood, pepper, skillful cakes, palm sugar, etc.

Buying souvenirs

For those of you traveling to Phu Quoc and wanting to buy gifts for friends and family, there are plenty of options to choose from. You can find Phu Quoc-themed clothing, beach bags made of straw, customizable charm bracelets, wooden carvings with inscriptions, and more. Among these, the most popular items are handbags or passport holders made of handmade synthetic leather. It’s interesting because you get to choose the decorative elements to be added to the bag. For example, the bag itself costs 120k, while the decorative elements like letters or metal shapes cost around 10-20k each. You can choose and have them attached wherever you like. It’s both fun and unique, and ensures you won’t have the same item as others.

Buying Phu Quoc Pearls

As you may know, Phu Quoc tourism is famous for its pearls. At the Phu Quoc night market, you can find a wide variety of pearl jewelry. The prices vary greatly, and the quality is hard to determine, so I recommend that if you plan to buy pearls during your Phu Quoc tour, choose stores with clear addresses and make sure to get a receipt and warranty for your purchase.

Buying Chou Chou Phu Quoc Peanuts

tour-phu-guoc-cho-dem-phu-quoc-cuongdulich.com00002

At the Phu Quoc night market, there is a specialty product that almost everyone traveling to Phu Quoc wants to buy, which is Chou Chou peanuts. Chou Chou peanuts are a specialty of Phu Quoc, originating from France but very popular on the island. Visitors to Phu Quoc rarely miss out on trying this unique snack. Simply roasted peanuts, seasoned with a rich and sweet flavor that captivates the taste buds of first-time diners.
